Villa Park teen charged in robbery

A 17-year-old Villa Park resident has been charged as an adult in connection with the robbery of another teenager on Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Villa Park police say a 14-year-old boy was robbed about 12:39 p.m. Friday while he was in the area of Ardmore Avenue and Park Boulevard. The victim told officers that the offender, who was armed with a handgun, stole his iPhone, pocket knife and $10.

After police got a detailed description of the suspect from the victim, an officer located the suspect about an hour later walking on the 300 block of North Ardmore. The teenager ran away but later was taken into custody on the 300 Block of North Princeton Avenue, authorities said.

Officers searched the area and found the stolen items hidden in a barbecue grill near where the suspect was apprehended.

The 17-year-old, who wasn’t named by police, has been charged with felony robbery. He was taken to the DuPage County jail to await a bond court hearing.
