Cicero teen charged in baby’s death in Michigan

BEULAH, Mich. — A Cicero teenager faces a murder charge after authorities say she gave birth at a northern Lower Michigan campsite to a baby who later died.

The Grand Rapids Press reports a judge ordered Thursday that Alyce Morales be held in jail without bond. The 18-year-old faces an open murder charge.

State police say Morales gave birth in a Benzie County campsite tent late Monday night, then fatally injured the child.

According to police, Morales’ parents didn’t know she was pregnant.

The Ludington Daily News reports Marie Morales was taken to a hospital but died Tuesday.

State police Sgt. Scott Bates says an autopsy shows the newborn died of blunt force trauma.
