Woodridge man arrested on gun, drug charges

A Woodridge man who fled a traffic stop has been located and charged with possessing cocaine and illegally possessing a handgun, police said.

Michael H. Jones, 27, was ordered held on $100,000 bail at a bond court appearance Friday in front of DuPage County Judge Anthony Coco.

Authorities said Jones sped off after police stopped his Pontiac Grand Prix at 11:38 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Addison Road and Sunset Drive in Villa Park. Officers chased the vehicle for about two blocks before Jones jumped out and ran away, according to a news release.

Afterward, police searched the car and found three grams of cocaine and a loaded handgun, authorities said.

Jones was taken into custody Thursday as officers staked out his last known address on the 7900 block of Chelsea Street in Woodridge.

He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, cocaine possession, fleeing or attempting to elude police, obstructing police and driving on a revoked license, as well as traffic offenses.

DuPage court records indicate Jones has a prior conviction for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and is barred from possessing firearms.

In 2007, he was sentenced to three years in prison for possessing a .38 caliber revolver. Two years later, he received a 9½-year term for possessing a 12-gauge shotgun, according to court records.
