Civil War attire on display:

The Lakes Region Historical Society will present an exhibition of Ladies Attire of the Civil War from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 20 and 27 at the Meeting House, 977 Main St., Antioch. The exhibit includes more than 25 gowns, children’s clothes, bonnets, shoes, fans, parasols and other accessories. Admission is $5 for adults, children under 12 and parking are free. The exhibit is available for private group tours at other times by appointment. Call (847) 395-4912. This is a rare opportunity to see up close, the gorgeous fabrics, colors and construction on these dresses that were created and worn during a very dark time in U.S. history. The exhibit has been held on Saturdays this month in honor of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War and the Meeting House, the oldest standing building in Antioch.
