Youth troupe to perform ‘Kiss Me, Kate’ at Hersey High School

The King’s Players will perform the legendary Cole Porter musical, as “Kiss Me, Kate” opens Sunday, July 25, and runs through Wednesday, July 28, at John Hersey High School.

The show, directed by Jan Scott and Mark Brewer, features a cast of 61 students from the Northwest suburbs who have completed 6th through 12th grades.

“Kiss Me, Kate” is a classic musical comedy first performed in 1948 with music and lyrics by Cole Porter and book by Samuel and Bella Spewack. It combines scenes and dialogue from Shakespeare’s comedy, “The Taming of the Shrew,” with original Broadway hits “Another Op’nin, Another Show,” “So in Love” and “Too Darn Hot.”

The King’s Players is a youth theater group of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mount Prospect in partnership with District 214 Community Education. The mission of The King’s Players is to provide the youth of our area with opportunities to build self-esteem and to learn cooperation and teamwork through participation in a theater production.

The King’s Players operates as an outreach ministry of St. Mark Lutheran Church.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. July 25-27 and 1:30 p.m. July 28. Hersey High School is at 1900 E. Thomas St., Arlington Heights.
