It’s time to send in the replacements

Congratulations to Chuck Coletta for his June 27 letter, in which he states that Hillary Clinton was badgered by congressmen who questioned her about the event that took place in Benghazi that cost the lives of four Americans. As Mr. Coletta pointed out, instead of explaining her State Department’s failure to protect our embassy she said, “What difference does it make?” In defense of Mrs. Clinton’s total failure as secretary of state, Mr. Coletta said, “I think that she still likes us and is working for us, and doing her best for all of us.”

Liking us and doing her best are qualifications for her to run the State Department? Knute Rockne, the legendary coach of Notre Dame’s football team, once told a player to replace another player and get us a first down. He said, “I’ll try my best coach.” Rockne replied, “I’ve got 11 players out their trying. I’m not sending you in to try. I’m sending you in to get the job done.”

We have a president who has tried his best for 4½ years. We have career politicians in both houses of Congress who have done their best for too many years. We don’t need people who try their best when their best is not good enough. We need to send in replacements capable of getting us a political first down and then going on to win the game.
