One person was injured yesterday morning after a small plane heading to Waukegan made an emergency landing in Kendall County, officials said. The plane, a two-person propeller aircraft, was registered to a man in Mundelein, according to Federal Aviation Administration records. Full story.

Prospect Heights parents sell shirts for Prescott firefighter families

A local family is selling memorial T-shirts to remember the 19 firefighters lost in Prescott, Arizona last month because their son, a Hersey High School graduate, once applied to be part of that crew and now works in similar dangerous situations in Southern California. “We saw it on the news and felt like we needed to do something for the families because it was just so devastating,” said Tim Kelliher of Prospect Heights. Former St. Charles alderman Donald Nippert dies

Lifelong resident and former alderman Donald Nippert will be buried in St. Charles this week as his family and the community remember all that he contributed over the years. Nippert, 87, died peacefully at his St. Charles home on Thursday, his family said.“I knew what my dad meant to me, but I didn't know what he meant to St. Charles,” said Nippert's son Dan. Cloudy and a thunderstorm early this morning with temperatures around 77 degrees, but temperatures will climb to 88 this afternoon after the storms push through. Another possible storm is expected this evening when temperatures dip back to 73 degrees. Full story.

Construction continues between IL Route 72/ East Higgins Road and IL Route 64/North Avenue in Elk Grove Village, Bensenville, and Wood Dale. The roadwork is expected to last through October. More traffic.

Villanueva does his job in Cubs' win

When Carlos Villanueva was reminded yesterday he has been the good soldier all year, he quickly clarified. “I think I've been the (good) soldier for seven years now,” he said, referring to his career as a swingman in the big leagues. “It just feels good to have some music on after the game.” The Cubs were dancing to the music because they beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 at Wrigley Field.
