Young drowning victim identified

Will County authorities say a 3-year-old boy from Colorado drowned in a backyard pool in the South suburbs.

The Daily Southtown reported the boy has been identified as Nathan Kackert of Colorado Springs, Colo. The boy died Sunday after he wandered away from his family’s home in Homer Glen. His body was found a short time later in a nearby in-ground pool.

He was pronounced dead at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

Investigators say the boy’s death appears to be an accident. Authorities believe a gate surrounding the pool may have been left open on Saturday evening.
