Palatine Children's Chorus Offers Singin' In The Sun Camps

The Palatine Children's Chorus was founded in 1987 by Judy Meyer Hays and since then has become one of the Chicago area’s premiere children's choruses. Supported by the Palatine Park District, the PCC program has grown to include children as young as 4 and as old as 18 in 6 individual choirs led by 6 adult staff. Under Artistic Director Susan Falbo’s leadership (1994-2012), Concert and Honors choirs began touring in 1997, experiencing cultures and music as far east as Vienna and as far west as Hawaii. During our 25th “Dare to Dream” anniversary year, we focused on new goals and opportunities for all of our singers, even our youngest, and rededicated our energy to our mission, giving children enthusiastic, energetic music education and outstanding performance opportunities. New Artistic Director Rachel Rosellini, a former PCC singer, is continuing that dedication: to nurture in each singer the confidence, satisfaction, and joy music brings.

The week of July 15, PCC will offer two summer camp options for children. Singin’ In The Sun I will allow children ages 8 to 12 to investigate the Palatine Children’s Chorus program through a week of games and other musical activities. Singin’ In The Sun II is a week of singing with old friends and new for ages 13 to 18. In both programs, children will learn both old favorites and new songs, develop their musicianship, and meet other children who love to sing. Participants will perform at the Fred P. Amphitheater on July 17 at 8pm with PCC and on July 20 with the summer PCC/camp choruses and the alumni chorus.

Camps will be held from July 15 through July 19. Singin’ in the Sun I will be held from 9:00am to 12:00 noon, and Singin’ In The Sun II will be held from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The fee for each camp is $39 for Palatine Park District residents, and $54 for non-residents. Registration can be done online at www.palatineparks.org, by mail or fax, or in person at Community Center, Birchwood Recreation Center or Falcon Park Recreation Center.
