Police: Elgin man ‘brutally' stabbed woman, her boyfriend

A Crystal Lake woman and her boyfriend were stabbed multiple times early yesterday morning in what police described as a domestic situation. An arrest warrant has been issued for Jimmy Bell Jr., 30, of Elgin, on two counts of attempted murder. Police say Bell is the ex-boyfriend of the female victim. Full story.

Convicted Darien killer set for August sentencing

A man who admitted killing three members of a Darien family during a March 2010 attack will be sentenced on Aug. 13, a DuPage County judge said yesterday. Jacob Nodarse, 26, pleaded guilty but mentally ill and faces 45 years to life for shooting three members of the Kramer family. Full story.

Traffic

New law requires schools to hold shooting drills

A Black Hawk helicopter landed at Northrop Grumman yesterday to celebrate the company's annual America Day celebration. Thome back with White Sox

Former slugger Jim Thome rejoins the White Sox as an assistant to General Manager Rick Hahn. While he hasn't “officially” retired, Thome played 22 major-league seasons, most recently with the Baltimore Orioles last year. The Peoria native was with the White Sox from 2006-09. Full story.
