Five hospitalized, woman airlifted in McHenry crash

Five people were hospitalized, including a woman who had to be airlifted, after a two-car crash on Tuesday in unincorporated McHenry Township.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District, Spring Grove Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff's officials responded to a crash at Miller and Spring Grove Roads at 1:05 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a news release.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder was headed eastbound on Miller Road and stopped at a stop sign before crossing over Spring Grove Road in front of a 2010 Ford Flex that was traveling northbound. There is no stop sign for traffic on Spring Grove Road.

The 32-year-old Niles woman who was driving the Nissan and her two children, ages 1 and 5, were transported by ambulance to Centegra Hospital in McHenry where they were treated and released.

A front seat passenger in the Nissan, a 31-year-old woman, had to be extricated and transported in a Flight For Life medical helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she is in critical, but stable condition.

The driver of the Ford, a 41-year-old woman from McHenry, was also treated and released at Centegra Hospital.

Alcohol and drugs were not considered to be a factor in the crash, police said.

All drivers and passengers were properly belted at the time of the crash, according to the release.

The traffic crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Traffic Crash Investigation Unit.
