‘Band of Sisters’ to play at Raue Center for the Arts

The 2012 documentary “Band of Sisters” will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, July 12, at the Raue Center for the Arts, 26 N. Williams St., in Crystal Lake.

It premiered in Chicago in September 2012 and is now touring the U.S. It is about the journey of Catholic nuns from the U.S. that go from being sheltered “daughters of the church” to adventurous citizens of the world.

In the film, two nuns advocate for the rights of immigrant detainees and deportees in and around a Chicago-area deportation center. In the face of obstacles and threats cast by government agencies, the military and the hierarchy of their own church, the forward-thinking U.S. nuns are on a mission of love, and it appears that nothing can stop them.

“Band of Sisters” travels with nuns across the U.S. who continue their own missions as organic farmers, environmental attorneys, peace activists, holistic health care practitioners, podcasters and more.
