Bartlett Fourth of July Festival turns 20

The Bartlett Fourth of July Festival is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, having originated with a committee formed in August of 1992 by a few residents who wanted a “hometown celebration that would create memories for our children and our children’s’ children.”

The committee’s sole purpose is to provide a Fourth of July Celebration. It is self funding with profits from one year used for the celebration the next year. Bartlett funds $12,000 toward the cost of the fireworks display and provides police and fire support. The Bartlett Park District provides the location at Apple Orchard Park, 700 S. Bartlett Road (Stearns and Bartlett roads), garbage removal and supervises parking.

Among special features of the festival are the peddle tractor pull and the plastic turtle race. The latter event will be at 4 p.m. July 4 at the Aquatic Center, with proceeds going to the Bartlett Parks Foundation. For information, call (630) 540-4828.

The Bartlett Lions Club Independence Day Parade will be 1 p.m. Sunday, July 7, from North Avenue taking Oak Avenue to Railroad Avenue to Main Street to South Bartlett Road to end at Stearns Road.
