Foxmoor subdivision is a hidden gem
When Ryan and Susan Bauer sought a home in a laid-back, natural setting, their treasure awaited within the rolling hills of the Foxmoor subdivision in Fox River Grove.
“We really found a gem here,” Ryan Bauer said. “We see deer almost every day, and our house backs up to Foxmoor Park where they have baseball and soccer fields. There’s a lot of room for our boys to play baseball and do all the outdoor stuff they like.
“We’re in a prime location overlooking a pond, so we see a lot of birds, herons, ducks and geese, and there’s fishing in the two ponds.”
The couple and their four boys like the family-friendly neighborhood.
“There are a lot of kids around, people always out walking and jogging, and it’s very safe out here,” Bauer said.
Situated at Lexington and Algonquin roads, the subdivision is tucked away where a lot of people aren’t even aware of it.
“People are surprised,” Bauer said. “They turn in and say ‘I didn’t know this was here.’ A big hill separates us from the train, and we’re close to Routes 14 and 22, but the hill acts as a sound barrier and also shields us from the view of main traffic.”
Other attractions for the Bauers are the award-winning schools and access to major shopping areas with Lake Zurich, Algonquin and Crystal Lake all about equidistant. From a traffic standpoint, being east of Fox River was a consideration.
“Foxmoor is hilly, not flat, and it’s a very pretty subdivision with mature trees,” said Brenna Freskos, a broker with Keller Williams Team Realty and also a previous resident of Foxmoor. “It’s a great place to live.”
Several builders constructed homes in the subdivision, which makes for a nice variety. Homes include two-stories, split-levels and ranches with three to four bedrooms and 1½ to 3½ baths, depending on whether the home has a finished basement.
The area also features a block of townhouses with English or walkout basements that back up to ponds.
Freskos is marketing a split-level home at 442 Hunters Way that is still occupied by original owners. It has been meticulously kept and has a private fenced back yard, Freskos said.
The subdivision is surrounded by Barrington Hills, and many of the homes back up to larger properties, giving it a nice, private feeling.
“When I told someone I previously lived in Foxmoor, she said no one ever moves out of Fox River Grove,” Freskos said. “Some stay for generations.”
People like the highly rated schools with small class sizes, and the convenience of being able to walk to Metra from most houses in the subdivision. A lot of residents commute.
Although the village has no park district, the all-volunteer Recreation Council organizes many community sports teams and activities for residents.
Situated along the picturesque Fox River, Fox River Grove offers more than 100 acres of public parks and recreation, including fishing, boating, swimming, picnicking and sports activities. Lions Park hosts many community events while Picnic Grove Park’s sledding hill is a popular spot in the wintertime.
The village hosts several annual events such as fireworks celebration and September Fox Fest.
The community is constantly doing things to improve the area — updating village hall, adding a new warming shelter. “And now we’re getting a new train station, Freskos said. “The new station will be beautiful.”
