Brief power outage at Great America

A brief power outage at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee left some people stuck on Thursday night, but everyone was able to get off the rides safely, officials said.

According to a statement sent around 8:30 p.m. by the park’s public relations department, “the park experienced a brief power outage. All of our guests were safely unloaded from the affected rides. Power has been restored to all affected areas of the park and, following a safety check on all rides, we resumed normal operations.”

The amusement park would not comment on when power went out, how long it was out or how long it took to get passengers off the rides.

Earlier Thursday night a line of strong storms passed through the suburbs, leaving thousands without power.
