Reminders of what is important in life

“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years” -- Abraham Lincoln.

Celebration of life! I am reflecting on the past few days.

My son survived a horrible accident on Rand Road over the weekend, and I lost a friend from Lake Zurich today.

After the accident in Lake Zurich, random people stopped to help my son and his girlfriend (thank you for your kindness; we are eternally grateful). The outpouring of support from people in Lake Zurich for both kids is unbelievable.

Our friend, Tom Kowalski, passed away today. If the stars aligned and someone said, “Who best represents the spirit of Lake Zurich?” The answer would be Tom Kowalski.

Dad, husband, volunteer, and friend equals Tom Kowalski.

I know that many use these words, but few lived them. My heart is truly saddened.

“In the end, its not the years ... it’s the life in your years that count.”

To my son: The challenge lies ahead — life’s second chance.

To Tom Kowalski: You lived life to the fullest and you taught us all how important each and every moment is, and to be caring, forgiving, and in the end some things just do not matter.

Tom, God rest your soul. Lake Zurich is richer today because of what you shared with us. Thank you.
