Gurnee police special patrols:

Gurnee police will have special Fourth of July patrols from June 28 to July 7, with a focus on catching impaired and unbuckled drivers. The increased enforcement effort will focus mostly on the late-night hours between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. in an effort to control the high amount of traffic accidents and deaths associated with the holiday. The officers assigned to the patrols will have zero tolerance for impaired driving and safety belt violations but also for traffic violations and speeding. The extra patrols are funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation as a part of the statewide Independence Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
