Arlington Hts. announces holiday traffic campaign

Arlington Heights police will conduct specialized traffic enforcement activities relating to the Illinois Department of Transportation’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” holiday enforcement campaign from June 28 through July 7, the department announced Wednesday.

Enforcement activities will include extra impaired driving saturation patrols and two roadside safety checkpoints. The checkpoints will take place on June 28 and June 29 on Arlington Heights Road south of Algonquin Road.

Officers working the campaign will be attempting to identify and cite motorists driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, without using their safety belts, and who are committing other traffic-related offenses. Enforcement efforts will focus on late-night hours, since statistics show a disproportionate number of traffic deaths occur late at night and involve impaired drivers and unbuckled motorists.
