St. Charles-area man killed in one-car crash near Elburn

A man from an unincorporated area near St. Charles was killed Wednesday evening in a car crash near Elburn, according to a news release from the Kane County sheriff’s office.

The crash occurred around 6 p.m. on Route 47, near the intersection of Rowe Road, in unincorporated Blackberry Township, according to police.

The initial investigation shows that Mark Detoni, 54, was driving south at a high rate of speed on Route 47 when the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban he was in crossed the centerline of the road. The vehicle went off onto the northbound shoulder and then back onto the roadway, at which point it started to roll.

Detoni was ejected from the vehicle and transported to Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. He was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Route 47 was closed between Rowe Road and Kenmar Drive for about two hours Wednesday evening during the investigation.
