Sonny Rollins cancels Chicago concert

CHICAGO — Jazz legend Sonny Rollins has canceled a September performance in Chicago.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra says the 82-year-old saxophonist has canceled his Symphony Center Presents performance on Sept. 13. Rollins says in a statement he has suffered “a recent illness” and will be unable to perform. He says he is disappointed but hopes to recover soon. He thanked his fans, who he says “are so loyal to me.”

Rollins was saluted at the 2011 Kennedy Center Honors. He has shared the stage with Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie, among others.
