Lake County Sheriff’s sergeant nominated for MADD award

Lake County Sheriff’s Sgt. Thomas Struck has been nominated for Mothers Against Drunk Driving Illinois Hero Award. Struck, who began his career with the sheriff’s office in 2001 and was promoted to sergeant in Sept. 2012, has made a total 418 driving under the influence arrests during his career, including 41 last year.

He actively participates in roadside safety checks and remains in contact with victims of DUI accidents by notifying them of court dates and proceedings, according to the sheriff’s office. In 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 Sgt. Struck received certificates of appreciation in recognition of commendable DUI enforcement from Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists. He also received the MADD Illinois Hero Award in 2011.

About 100 nominations are submitted for the MADD Illinois Hero Award, with 25 law enforcement officers being chosen.
