Therapy dog visits Lake County Corrections Center
On Wednesday, June 12, 2013 Susan Knaack and her therapy dog Kubla Khan visited the Lake County Community Based Corrections Center (CBCC). Knaack along with Jail Chaplains escorted Kubla Khan, a 155 pound Leonburger-a German mountain dog, through the female pods.
Knaack's organization Adventures with Bailey is a volunteer not for profit public charity providing animal assisted therapy. Kubla Khan along with Knaack's other therapy dogs are certified by Therapy Dogs International. The therapy dogs frequent schools, nursing homes, hospitals, and libraries.
This was the first time a therapy dog was brought into the CBCC and the first time Knaack and Kubla Khan visited a corrections facility. Both inmates and Correction's Officer's enjoyed Kubla Khan's visit. During and after Kubla Khan's visit there was a noticeable reduction in tension and attitude inside the jail facility.
