Friends of the Wheaton Municipal Band announce scholarship winners

The Friends of the Wheaton Municipal Band are proud to announce their 2013 youth scholarship winners. The recipient of the $500 college scholarship is Steven Franklin, a home-schooled trumpeter who will study trumpet performance at Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Franklin has performed with the Wheaton Municipal Band for 3 years and over the past year he has played in the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, IMEA All-State Honors Band and the Wheaton College Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble.

Clay Corso, a sophomore pianist at Wheaton North High School, will apply his $250 music camp scholarship toward summer studies at Elmhurst College's Jazz Combo Camp.

Serena Harnack, a sophomore violinist at St. Francis High School, receives a scholarship for her continuing music studies at the Music Institute of Chicago. She was a featured soloist with the Wheaton Municipal Band earlier in the summer.

Each year, the Friends of the Wheaton Municipal Band offers music scholarships to assist young Wheaton musicians in pursuing their music educations and furthering their musical experiences. Complete information and applications are available on the band website at www.wheatonmunicipalband.org.
