What’s taking so long for Rt. 53 extension?

My wife and I in June completed a 1,700-mile round trip to southern Georgia paying from $3.15 to $3.25 a gallon for gasoline, except in Indiana where higher prices still were lower than those in Illinois.

It is a shame that motorists in Lake County continue to be stuck in avoidable traffic jams wasting expensive gasoline when they could be moving if Route 53 had been extended as Illinois Gov. Bill Stratton promised us and the governor of Wisconsin five decades ago.

The Wisconsin governor promised to build Route 12 into an expressway in his state to meet an extended Route 53. Why can’t Illinois government keep its promise even if it was made in the last century?
