C. Ind. teen hurt by shotgun blast through floor

AVON, Ind. (AP) — Police say a 19-year-old man was handling a shotgun in a suburban Indianapolis home when it went off, firing a round through the floor and injuring a young woman who was in a basement bathroom.

The Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department says the 18-year-old woman was taken to an Indianapolis hospital in stable condition with nonlife threatening wounds to her thighs after the Thursday night shooting in Avon.

Sheriff’s Lt. Jim Yetter tells WTHR-TV the man was handling the shotgun in a bedroom and the shooting appears to be accidental.

The man who fired the shot is the homeowner’s son, while the wounded woman was visiting the home in a subdivision in the western suburb of Indianapolis.
