In praise of 'good guys' carrying guns

I have never owned a firearm and have no desire or plans to own one. My only use of a gun was when I was trained to use the M1 rifle (I'm dating myself) as an infantryman in the U.S. Army. Oh, I also had a toy cap pistol when I was a kid.

Every year during the month of March, my wife and I enjoy Major League Baseball spring training in Phoenix. With Arizona being a legal concealed carry state, I have often thought there may be a bad guy packing in the ballpark, in a restaurant, in a store, or stopped next to us at a traffic signal. Then I take dubious comfort thinking for every bad guy packing there may be 20 good guys also armed. Sort of makes you think of the Hollywood movies “Bonnie and Clyde” and “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.”
