'Identity Thief' makes a run for DVD

“Identity Thief”

The box-office hit “Identity Thief” pairs Plainfield native Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman in a comedy that works largely because of its cast.

Bateman stars as Sandy Patterson, a loyal family man living in Denver who finds out that someone has stolen his identity and run wild with his credit cards. That someone is Diana (scene-stealer McCarthy). So Sandy sets off for Florida to bring her back to Denver to clear his name. But Diana has also run afoul of some thugs, who are hot on her trail as well.

At times, the film feels like the classic road movie comedy “Midnight Run.” Sandy and Diana are as different as night and day, but they forge a bond as he learns about her difficult past.
