Williamson’s Bandits debut a winner

Pitcher Andi Williamson made her Chicago Bandits debut a winning one, throwing a complete-game 7-1 victory over the Akron Racers on Wedneday night in Rosemont on Opening Night of the 2013 National Pro Fastpitch season.

In the Bandits’ first, Megan Wiggins doubled and scored on Alisa Goler’s single.

“I thought tonight’s game went really well,” said Wiggins. “With it being the first game of the season, we obviously have some things to improve on but overall we executed, played great defense and put the ball in play so we can only go up from here.”

The Racers tied it in the second on Kelley Montalvo’s RBI triple.

In the Bandits’ fourth, Vicky Galindo’s bases-loaded single scored pinch runner Maggie Hull. The bases were still loaded when Wiggins delivered a bases-clearing double. Amber Patton hit a double that drove home Wiggins and give the Bandits a 6-1 lead.

In the fifth, Tammy Williams singled, stole second and scored on Galindo’s single.

The Bandits host the Racers today at 7:05 p.m. in the second game of a four-game series.
