44-year-old man dies in SUV crash in Elgin
A 44-year-old man died early Monday after he crashed his sport utility vehicle into a parked semitrailer on Elgin’s west side, police said.
Officials were withholding the man’s identification until they notified his family, Cmdr. Dan O’Shea said.
At 7:35 a.m., police responded to the crash in the 2400 block of Galvin Drive, which is in an industrial park.
Officers discovered that a 2006 Cadillac SRX had been traveling west on Northwest Parkway at a high rate of speed. When it drove over Galvin Drive, it went into a private parking lot, flipped over and hit the semitrailer, police said.
The speed limit on Galvin drive is between 25 and 35 mph, but it was not yet known how fast the SUV was going, O’Shea said.
It also wasn’t known whether the driver, the SUV’s sole occupant, was wearing a seat belt, O’Shea said.
Kane County Coroner Rob Russell said he has ordered a toxicology report to help determine what led up to Monday’s crash. The results typically take several weeks to return.
Meanwhile, the Elgin Police Department Crash Unit continues to investigate the crash. If you have any information about it, call the unit at (847) 289-2661.
