Bond set at $2 million for Palatine robbery suspect

Cook County Judge Jill Cerone Marisie set bail at $2 million Friday for a 20-year-old Chicago man charged with armed robbery and aggravated kidnapping at a Palatine store.

Authorities say Lavell Fort brandished a handgun when he entered a Palatine Verizon Wireless store accompanied by an unidentified person at about 6 p.m. May 18.

Fort and the other person ordered three employees and a family of four to lie face down on the floor, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Moe Ahmad.

Ahmad said they then ordered the manager to open the locked inventory room and told him to put cellphones, computer tablets, iPhones and iPads totaling more than $50,000 into a bag.

An unknown amount of cash was also taken from the register.

The investigation into the unknown offender’s identity continues, authorities said.

The charges against Fort are class X felonies which carry a sentence range of six to 30 years in prison.

He next appears in court on June 21.
