Naperville kennel owner accused of abandoning animals during floods

The owner of a dog kennel in Naperville has been charged with animal cruelty for leaving animals in their cages during the April floods, authorities said.

Jean A. LiPetri, 68, the owner of Naperville Kountry Kennels at 1804 S. Washington St., was charged with five counts of violation of owner’s duties, according to court records.

LiPetri turned herself in to police just after 8 a.m. Thursday and posted bond.

Police said officers had to rescue animals from their kennels as floodwaters rose on April 18.

LiPetri couldn’t be reached for comment. She bought Kountry Kennels in 1995, according to a 2003 Daily Herald feature story on the business.
