Juskiewicz, Palatine roll into regional title berth

Jarrod Juskiewicz pitched Palatine into the Class 4A regional championship round Friday.

The Pirates senior held regional host Deerfield to 4 singles as Palatine rolled to a 7-0 decision.

Palatine meets Glenbrook South with a regional title at stake. The game will start at 11 a.m. Saturday at Deerfield.

The Palatine bats had plenty of support for Juskiewicz on Friday. Zach Serna went 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, Bill Stewart hit a 3-run homer and Greg Grana had 2 hits.

Juskiewicz (4-3) lowered his ERA to 2.26. He threw 57 of his 89 pitches for strikes, and struck out none while walking one as the Pirates committed only 1 error.

Stewart’s home in the fourth inning put Palatine up 4-0. The Pirates (21-14-1) scored three more times in the top of the seventh to get some breathing room as a run scored on a wild pitch, Juskiewicz produced a sacrifice fly and Serna delivered an RBI double.

New Trier 4, Leyden 3: The Trevians scored 2 runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to advance in the Von Steuben regional, played at Northeastern University.

Kevin Duaire earned the victory for New Trier, which meets Niles West in Saturday’s 11 a.m. championship.

Notre Dame 5, Lane 1: The Dons earned a spot in regional they’re hosting as Ryan Nikolich tossed a complete game for Notre Dame.

Elk Grove (23-9) meets Notre Dame in regional championship play at 2 p.m. Saturday.
