Lake Zurich wins in 9

Lake Zurich’s softball team survived a scare in its state tournament opener.

The sixth-seeded Bears scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to edge No. 11 Glenbrook North 5-4 in a semifinal of the Class 4A Glenbrook South regional.

Carlee Parsons (double, 2 runs, RBI) and Maria Schroeder (double, 3 RBI) each had 3 hits for Lake Zurich, which earned its 20th win of the season. The Bears (20-9) face No. 17 Glenbrook South in Saturday’s 11 a.m. final.

Winning pitcher Olivia Schneider went 2-for-4 with a double. The junior lefty struck out a career-high 14 batters in 723 innings.

Lakes 10, Johnsburg 0: At Antioch, the third-seeded Eagles had no problem in their Class 3A regional semifinal.

Lakes will play top-seeded Antioch for the regional title at 11 a.m.

McHenry 9, Crystal Lake Central 0: At Grant, the second-seeded Warriors earned a berth in today’s 4:30 p.m. regional final against top-seeded Prairie Ridge.
