District 63 seeks applicants for school board vacancy

East Maine School District 63 is accepting applications for a vacant school board position after the recent resignation of school board member John Jekot.

The appointee will serve the remainder of Jekot’s term on the school board until the next election in April 2015. To be eligible, a candidate must be a United States citizen, at least 18 years old, a resident of Illinois and the district for at least a year, a registered voter, be neither a school trustee nor a school treasurer, and not be a child sex offender as defined by state law.

The selected candidate must also file an economic interest statement as required by the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act. Some candidates may be ineligible for the post if they hold other public offices or certain types of state or federal employment. District 63’s school board policies are available at emsd63.org.

Applications may be picked up at the Donald C. Stetina Educational Service Center, 10150 Dee Road, Des Plaines. The deadline for submitting applications is 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 29. The school board will consider interested applicants at a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. June 3.
