’Cue enthusiasts heading to Westmont

Want to taste some great ribs, as well as brisket and chicken, without having to do the work?

Head to Westmont May 24 to 26 for the Red, White and Bar-B-Q barbecue competition.

Now in its fifth year, the competition, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, features 72 professional and 52 amateur barbecue teams from around the corner to around the Midwest. More than $10,000 in prize money will be awarded and crews from TV’s “BBQ Pitmasters” will be on hand to capture the action.

Admission is free and includes access to live bands, cooking demonstrations and a craft show. The barbecue, beer and carnival rides will cost you.

The festival, the largest celebration of barbecue in the state, is held at Ty Warner Park, off Blackhawk Drive between Plaza Drive and Chestnut Avenue. More at westmontbbq.com.
