DuPage photographers go wild in this week’s contest

Each week’s DuPage County Neighbor section includes at least one entry in our Photo Finish contest. Our photo staff picks some of their favorite submissions to run each week and then one overall monthly winner.

This week’s entries all focus on wildlife of some sort, from giant ants that have invaded the Morton Arboretum in Lisle to sea lions in the Galápagos Islands.

The ants, captured by Shirley Wilson of Glen Ellyn, are part of a large sculpture display that focuses on the insect world at the arboretum.

There weren’t a whole lot of sculptures around the Galápagos Islands when Deborah Solarski of Naperville visited on a cruise, but there were plenty of sea lions.

“I photographed these while on a 16-person Galápagos Islands Cruise,” she wrote with her entry. “The small group size allowed for a more intimate exposure to the fantastic wildlife.”

Cathy Godfrey of Wheaton was able to get pretty close to her photograph prey as well, only in this case it was a black-bellied whistling duck she spotted while on vacation in Brooksville, Fla. You can see her picture on Page 3.
