3 cups all-purpose flour

¾ cup sugar

¾ cup packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 eggs

1½ cups chocolate chips, or more or less to taste

Heat oven to 375 degrees.

In a large bowl with an electric mixer (or in a stand mixer), beat softened butter with sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Scrape bottom of bowl.

Add baking soda and salt and blend until just combined. Add flour slowly, mixing as you go. Add chocolate chips and blend until incorporated.

Roll dough into small balls and place 1½ inches apart on two or three cookie sheets. Bake 9-11 minutes. Cool 2 minutes on pan before removing to a rack to finish cooling.

Makes three dozen.
