Yonkovic powers Stevenson past Highland Park
Lexi Yonkovic had a home run and a double and drove in 5 runs to lead Stevenson to a 12-2 win over Highland Park in a Class 4A Libertyville regional quarterfinal Monday.
The Patriots, who improve to 17-13, also got 3 hits from Trisha Porzycki and 2 hits apiece from Dana Morgan and Jordan Cortesi. One of Cortesi’s hits went for a triple.
Winning pitcher Sam Feder rolled up 6 strikeouts.
Grayslake Central 4, Richmond-Burton 1: Brandy Heraty went 3-for-3 and blasted 2 home runs to lead the Rams to the win in the Antioch regional.
Jamie Brew added 2 hits for Central and winning pitcher Brittany Brown has now gone 71 innings without allowing an earned run.
Libertyville 5, Niles North 3: Madi Dembinski, Taylor Zoellick and Haley Hoeksel all had 2 hits apiece to lead host Libertyville to the win in regional play.
Winning pitcher Michaela Mooney rolled up 13 strikeouts.
Vernon Hills 11, North Chicago 0: In Class 3A regional play at Vernon Hills, the host Cougars rolled to the shutout.
Jordyn Comitor led Vernon Hills (8-15) with 3 hits, including 2 doubles. Teammates Kristina Kliver and Steffany Froman added 2 hits while pitcher Carly Stern got the win. She allowed just 1 walk.
Waukegan 3, Round Lake 0: At the Waukegan regional, the host Bulldogs got the shutout.
