Ifianayi, Sulentic win sectional races at Glenbard North

An especially strong effort in the field events helped Lake Park take top team honors in the Class 3A boys track sectional hosted by Glenbard North on Friday.

The Lancers finished with 147 points to top runner-up Wheaton North (105), York (103) and Conant (40) in the team standings.

Two Mid-Suburban League runners earned sectional victories.

Elk Grove sophomore Paul Ifianayi won the 400-meter dash in 49.06, and Conant senior Joe Sulentic won the 1,600 run in 4:19.42.

In the 800-meter run, Conant’s Jack Hutchison (1:55.63) was edged by Glenbard East’s Jack Peters (1:55.34) for the top spot as a total of six runners bettered the state qualifying standard.

Conant’s Scott Eilrich earned a downstate berth by placing second in the 110 hurdles in 15.03. His teammate, Zach Dale, also advanced by finishing third in the 3,200 run (9:18.71).

Rolling Meadows’ Tim Leuver punched his ticket to the state meet by placing second in the discus with a throw of 157 feet, 7 inches.
