Colon’s clutch hit boosts Boomers in 11

Alexi Colon played the hero, singling to deep right field with the bases loaded and no outs in the 11th to drive home Chad Mozingo with the game-winning run.

The Boomers (2-0) fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but starter Danny Jimenez, a St. Charles native, settled down. He working 6 innings and struck out seven in his season debut. Jose Rodriguez picked up the win in relief.

The Boomers’ pitching staff matched a franchise record with 13 strikeouts, as each of four pitchers fanned at least 1.

Mozingo went 3-for-5, and Michael Valadez added a pair of hits.

The Boomers (2-0) are back in action today at 6 p.m. against the Wild Things. Cody Griebling, who won six games as a starter last season, will make his 2013 debut opposite Shawn Sanford.
