You can now access Lake County court cases online
A new online system allowing customers to view Lake County court cases goes live today, circuit clerk officials said.
The launch is the first of a two-part roll out of the Lake County Public Access System to provide secure remote access for individuals to obtain basic information on any Lake County court case, Circuit Clerk Keith Brin said.
The second half of the system debuting later this year will be more interactive to help lawyers and others file court cases online.
“It’s not an 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. world anymore. We live in an age of technology and information,” Brin said. “In the private sector, companies implement technologies to remove barriers and make doing business easier, less expensive and more efficient for the customer. This is exactly what my office has done with the implementation of the Public Access System.”
The web interface did not cost taxpayers any additional money, he said, and it is available to use at the circuit clerk’s website free.
Brin said it will allow people to check on future court dates, amounts due to the court and the latest court filings by visiting lakecountyil.gov/CircuitClerk.
People will no longer need to call the Lake County circuit clerk’s office or head to Waukegan to review a criminal, civil or traffic case, he added.
“People will be able to get information about cases free as a convenience for them,” he said.
“I want to be clear, by convenient that means from home, at 2 a.m., on a Saturday evening if they’d like.”
Brin said he made a promise to have remote access to Lake County court cases if he were elected to the office in November. He said he delivered on that promise within his first 100 days.
“With our Public Access System, the circuit clerk’s office has found a way to use technology to extend limited resources and deliver a better and more efficient service to the taxpayers of Lake County,” Brin said.
