NCH joint pain seminar highlights Fast Track recovery program

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (May 8, 2013) – Many people suffer from daily joint pain, especially in their knees and hips. As new and innovative treatment options emerge, sometimes it can be overwhelming to choose the solution that's right for you. To help individuals make informed decisions, Northwest Community Hospital (NCH), designated a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, is hosting a free educational seminar about joint pain, joint replacement options and NCH's new Fast Track recovery program.

NCH's joint pain seminar is on Wednesday, May 29, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in the NCH auditorium at 800 W. Central Road in Arlington Heights.

Orthopedic surgeons Thomas Kim, MD, and Eduard Sladek, MD, as well as NCH experts in nursing and physical therapy, will share information on the latest treatments and therapies for joint pain, including joint replacement. The doctors will explain knee and hip procedures, as well as the Fast Track program designed to help patients get home sooner and back on their feet faster.

Those attending the seminar can ask the physicians questions about joint pain and joint replacement surgeries. Information also will be presented on NCH's Fast Track recovery program. The NCH Joint Replacement Program offers the Fast Track option for patients who have physical strength and determination to start their rehabilitation from the comfort of their own homes.

On the day of the surgery, Fast Track patients are scheduled for one of the first two procedures in the morning. In the afternoon, they have physical therapy sessions in their hospital rooms. On Day 1 post-op, patients receive two sessions of therapy. On Day 2, patients have another physical therapy session in the morning and then are driven home by their caregiver after lunch. As part of the program, patients must have a caregiver stay with them 24 hours a day for at least three days.

Come to the joint pain seminar and learn why Northwest Community Hospital is on the leading edge of joint replacement. Registration is required by calling HealthConnection at 847.618.4YOU (4968) or visiting the hospital online at www.nch.org/jointpain. Refreshments will be served at the seminar.
