Delozier helps Carmel rally past Benet

Dani Delozier’s “D” helped decide it.

The freshman second baseman, a recent call-up, helped save the day for Carmel Catholic’s softball team, which needed eight innings to pull out a 9-6 win over host Benet Academy in East Suburban Catholic Conference action Wednesday.

With two out and runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh of a tie game, Benet’s Emily York hit a line drive “as hard as you can hit it,” Carmel coach Jason Raymond, “and Dani made and unbelievable catch diving to her right.”

Kathleen Felicelli homered twice, doubled and singled for Carmel, She also scored twice and knocked in 3 runs. Jenny Behan also homered for the Corsairs. Freshman Claire Petrus was 1-for-2 with 2 walks and 2 runs scored. Delozier delivered a single and 2 runs scored.

Nicole Bitter threw 4 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.

Wauconda 2, Vernon Hills 0: The host Bulldogs avenged a North Suburban Prairie Division loss, as Kayla Wedl pitched a 3-hit shutout with 8 strikeouts.

Wauconda (17-8, 8-2) scored both of its runs in the fourth inning. Paige Motley’s squeeze bunt dropped for a single and scored Lauren Nee for the first run. Motley raced home on a throwing error to provide Wedl an insurance run.

Jenn Claussen had 9 strikeouts and allowed only 4 hits for Vernon Hills (5-10, 5-4). Claussen and Jordyn Comitor had doubles for the Cougars.

Antioch 3, St. Viator 2: Hannah Skoog went 3-for-3 and Kaylene Ressler was 2-for-4 for the Sequoits in the nonconference game.

Katie Phillips struck out nine and walked only one in earning the win. Antioch (16-11) scored all of its runs in the third inning.

Grayslake North 5, Crystal Lake Central 1: Jordyn Bowen and Kelsey Borders each had 2 hits for the Knights in the Fox Valley Fox game, while Nikki Livengood went the distance in the circle.

Borders and Marli Kram tripled. Livengood allowed 6 hits, struck out five and walked one.

Jacobs 10, Grayslake Central 9: Sophomore Katie Strickland was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and senior Anna Strickland went 2-for-3 for the Rams.

Brandy Heraty had a double and 2 RBI for Grayslake Central, while Jamie Brew contributed a single, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Brittany Brown singled and scored twice for the Rams.

New Trier 4, Mundelein 3: The Mustangs fell to 20-7 with the nonconference loss, despite receiving 2 hits apiece from Lauren Fairweather (double), Haley Morelli and Chloe Peterson.
