Cougars blank Dragons

Left-handers Michael Heesch and Nathan Dorris combined to limit the Dayton Dragons to 5 hits as the Kane County Cougars captured their sixth straight victory — 2-0 on Sunday at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva.

Heesch (1-2) worked 713 innings, allowing 4 hits with 5 strikeouts and no walks. Zach Vincej led off the contest with the only hit for Dayton (9-20) until a double by Joe Hudson in the top of the seventh as Heesch retired 20 consecutive batters.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Cougars (14-13) grabbed the advantage. Rock Shoulders started with a singlee off starter Drew Cisco (2-2). West Darvill walked and Bijan Rademacher singled to load the bases. Oliver Zapata singled to drove home home Shoulders, but Rademacher was cut down at the plate by right fielder Beau Amaral.

In the fifth, the Cougars’ Gioskar Amaya led off with a double and Dan Vogelbach doubled to score Amaya.

After Heesch allowed back-to-back singles in the eighth, Dorris came on in relief and earned his second save.
