Sky signs Marshall grad to camp contract
Chicago native Britney Jones, a Marshall High School grad, has signed a training camp contract with the Chicago Sky, team officials announced.
Jones, a 5-foot-8-inch guard who played in college at Alabama-Birmingham, is known for her strong offensive skills, according to Sky head coach and general manager Pokey Chatman. Jones appeared in 27 games during to 2013 season with Iceland’s Fjolnir, where she averaged 31.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game.
At UAB, Jones was a Conference USA Sixth Player of the Year award recipient in 2007 and received C-USA All-Conference second team honors in 2009. She ranks second on UAB’s all-time career steals list (240) and ninth in career points (1601).
While at Marshall, Jones led her team to a CPS City Championship in 2002 and 2004, and a third place finish at the state tournament in 2002. The Chicago Sun-Times named Jones its 2005 Athlete and Player of the Year.
