Stevenson wins Lake Forest sectional

Stevenson’s badminton team, which tied Naperville North for the state championship last year, will be well represented at state again.

The Patriots won the Lake Forest sectional Friday night with 16 points to edge Prospect (14) and, in the process, they qualified all four of their entries for next weekend’s state meet at Eastern Illinois University.

Prospect junior Kiley Walsh captured the singles title with a 21-15, 21-14 win over Stevenson senior Claire Zhang. The third-place match went to Stevenson senior Lea Nowack, who outlasted Prospect senior Jordan Pollock 21-16, 22-20.

In doubles, Stevenson seniors Emily Cai and Yein Lee won the championship with a 21-16, 21-14 victory over Prospect sophomores Stephanie Venturelli and Jessica Hirsh. Stevenson senior Monica Chen and sophomore Margaret Chen placed third thanks to a 21-18, 24-22 win over Barrington seniors Emily Sullivan and Alyssa Slager.
