Night life: Hofbrauhaus celebrates German maibock

May is maibock time

It's May and time for maibock at Hofbrauhaus Chicago. The German microbrewery, beer hall, restaurant and beer garden offers up it's maibock — a bottom-fermented amber bock made with a higher alcohol content of 7.2 percent. Buy it by the liter for $12.95, a half liter for $6.95 or .3 liter for $4.95.

Derby de Mayo at Porter's

It's a twofer — celebrate the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo in one stop Saturday, May 4, at a daylong celebration. Drink specials include $5 mint juleps, $4 Corona and Corona Lights and $4 margaritas. A complimentary taco bar runs from 3 to 6 p.m. Additionally, there'll be a hat contest for the ladies with gift card prizes.

Street fest at Barleycorn

Join John Barleycorn for three days of music and drinks at an outdoor music festival May 3-5. Drink specials under the big top tent include sangria, mint juleps and Miller Lite beverages, as well as festival food from John Barleycorn and Moe's Cantina. Food and drink prices range from $5 to $10. Musical acts include Modern Day Romeos, 7th Heaven, American English, Dennis O'Brien Band, Infinity, Lounge Puppets, Creedence Revived and more. Hours and admission prices vary by day.
