Donald Harrison to headline Chicago Jazz Festival

The headliners at this summer’s Chicago Jazz Festival are drummer Jack DeJohnnette, saxophonist Charles Lloyd, pianist Jason Moran and New Orleans saxophonist Donald Harrison.

Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events announced the lineup Wednesday.

The free festival takes place over Labor Day weekend, running Aug. 29 to Sept. 1.

Other acts will include trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith, who will perform a new piece written to commemorate the 50th anniversary this year of the March on Washington. It’s part of a multimedia project with video artist Jesse Gilbert.

Moran will perform his Fats Waller Dance Party tribute on Aug. 31 at in Millennium Park.

Headliner Harrison closes out the festival with his Mardi Gras Indian Congo Square Nation band.
