Ela Soccer Club Triumphant at Nike Classic Cup

Five of the clubs Elite teams attended the event and four them came away with trophies.

Leading the way was the u14 Elite Girls team, who continued their strong run of late. They went 4 and 0 on the weekend, scoring 13 goals and only giving up one. In group play, the team beat local rivals Synergy and for the second time this spring they beat the Sockers FC ECNL team. Their third group win was over Jaier FC from Michigan. In the championship match, the girls beat Waukesha SC 1-0 to secure their third tournament championship in the last four events they have attended.

The u13 Elite Girls earned their way to the final after winning their group with 2 wins and a draw. They outscored their opponents 7-1 in group play before falling in the championship match. The runners-up finish comes in their first tournament of the spring.

On the boy's side, the u16 Elite had a strong showing in group play, going 3 and 0 to earn a berth in the final. They put away 13 goals and gave up none in 8-0, 3-0 and 2-0 victories. In a strongly contested championship match, they went down 1-0 on a penalty kick. The boys were able to earn a penalty of their own to tie the score at 1-1. Unfortunately, a last minute goal decided the match and Ela had to settle for the runners-up trophy, losing 2-1.

The u13 Boys Elite had a strong showing, playing up an age group in the u14 division. They won their first two games 8-0 and 5-1 respectively. Due to results, this made their final match a championship decider, as there was no final match for this tournament flight. Their opponent won their first two games 3-0 and 10-0, meaning a win would give Ela the title. In well-contested match, the final ended 1-1, which had Ela gain the runners-up trophy on goal-differential.

All in all, it was a successful weekend for Ela Soccer Club. The five participating teams racked up 12 wins, 4 losses and 2 draws overall, 1 Championship trophy and 3 runners-up trophies.

“We are very happy with the development of all our teams and plan to continue building on the success” said Gin Sharma, Director of Coaching for Ela Soccer Club.
