One injury in I-90 truck crash near Marengo
A two-truck accident and fire forced authorities to shut down all lanes of the Jane Addams Tollway near Route 20 outside of Marengo early Wednesday.
According to Illinois State Trooper Michelle Kistulinec, a semitrailer was eastbound on Interstate 90 through a construction zone when it struck the median and caught on fire. The debris and diesel fuel from the truck then hit a pickup truck heading westbound on the other side of the interstate, causing it to crash as well.
The driver of the semitrailer was taken to an area hospital and treated for minor injuries, while the driver of the pickup truck did not require medical treatment, Kistulinec said.
Police closed all lanes in both directions, due to the fire and smoke.
Traffic was backed up for miles on the tollway, authorities said, but all lanes were open by 11 a.m., Kistulinec said. Westbound Route 20 had been backed up for miles since it was an alternate route.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
